Car Buying Help
Buying a car is probably the second most expensive purchase an individual will make after a house. It's important when buying a vehicle that you get some car buying help when you look at purchasing your vehicle. There are a number of different factors to take into account when you're purchasing a new or second hand vehicle.
The most important question to ask yourself when you're looking at purchasing a vehicle is how much money you're willing to spend. If you require finance to purchase your car it is important to get this done before you look for vehicles as depending on the lender interest rates and fees may vary. Generally if you get finance from a car dealer it's usually higher than that of other financial institutions. It's also important to work out what your repayments will be and see if you can fit that amount into your budget along with the running costs associated with a car. A four cylinder engine will usually be cheaper to run than a six or eight cylinder engine and registration costs are also cheaper the lower the cylinders. Another factor when looking at purchasing a vehicle is what type of driving your going to do and changes in your life such as additions to your family. If you may look at purchasing a caravan or boat in the future then it's probably a good idea to go for a six or eight cylinder motor as they're better equipped to deal with towing.

If your buying a car from an owner or auction you can certainly save a lot of money on the vehicle but it doesn't give you the option of trading in your old car. If you purchase a car from a car yard then you have the option of trading in your old car to go towards the cost of purchasing your new car. When you buy a car privately or through an auction you also get no warranty when purchasing the car where as if you purchase the car through a car yard you generally get some kind of warranty depending on what you pay for the car.
When your looking at the car your going to purchase take your time and go over it thoroughly. It's important not to look at the car at night or when it's raining as it's possible you may not pick up rust spots, faded paint or minor dents on the car. Look at the tyres to see if they're worn unevenly as this can be a clue as to more serious problems with the brakes or steering. When test driving the car it's important to make sure that the car starts easily every time so turn it off and start it a couple of times. When on the road listen out for any loud engine noises, as this can be a minor or major fault with the engine. When you have finished driving the vehicle then you should check for any smoke coming out of the exhaust.
I would recommend you get some car buying help from your local auto club as this can save you a lot of money in the long run when purchasing a second hand vehicle. Where it's possible for you to pick up some problems with the car only a qualified independent mechanic can give a thorough car inspection and give you that piece of mind that the vehicle will not cost you thousands later on.
If your buying a new car then you may want to go through a car broker as they can generally get you a better price than you will negotiating with a car salesman. Car brokers often buy a large amount of cars which means they can get a better deal from the car yard. If you know what type of car your after then a car broker is certainly a good idea as they can save you lots of time and money and if you don't like the idea of haggling then they will do it for you to get the best price. They will charge you a fee for doing this but it may save you money in the end.
In summary i would strongly recommend you get a car inspection done by a qualified mechanic before purchasing a second hand vehicle. Auto clubs can provide this service to their members for a fee but it could end up saving you lots of money in the future. Also try to take your time when looking at vehicles and don't be in a rush to buy the first one which you come across. Remember there is no warranty when you purchase from the owner or an auction but you may pick up a better bargain than a car yard.
